For a second week running a Vancouver Whitecaps FC2 player has been named to the USL Team of the Week.
This week defender Sem de Wit, 21, joins teammate Daniel Haber who was honoured for his two-goal performance against Timbers 2 in Week 2.
De Wit was recognized for his impressive role in a tight, defensive match against the Sacramento Republic in front of 3,057 fans at UBC Thunderbird Stadium last Sunday. De Wit was instrumental in holding the older and more experienced Republic team to a nil-all draw.
"I think it was a good result for us," de Wit told reporters after the match. "We didn't create that many chances, so for us a draw is good."
"He's [de Wit] an absolute warrior. I think he's an intelligent footballer. In possession he's excellent. I'd say 90% of the time he makes the right decision," said WFC2 head coach Alan Koch.
WFC2 have started their 2016 USL campaign strong going undefeated in their first three matches. Currently the Thundercaps (2W-0L-1D, 7 pts) sit second in the Western Conference behind the LA Galaxy II.
Whitecaps FC2 are back in action at UBC Thunderbird Stadium on Sunday, April 17th at 7pm when they face the Oklahoma City Energy City FC.
